Hunter Gullickson

Owen began tenor drumming under the tuition of Joe Hickey at the age of seven. He is currently a member of six time world champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band of Vancouver, BC.  He instructs the Macalester College Pipe Band's bass and tenor section and plays snare drum in the band as well.  Owen is currently preparing for his MBA. 

This past January Owen won the prestigious Gold Medal at the Winter Storm Competition in Kansas City!

Mike Breidenbach is the Director of Piping at Macalester College and is the Pipe Major of their grade 3 pipe band. He has led the band to several Champion Supreme titles in the Midwest Pipe Band Association.   He has also  won many solo prizes as a grade 1 competitor. Mike has performed with many well known acts such as the Cheiftains, Bryan Adams, and the MN Orchestra. One of his most notable performances was playing in the world premier of the Pulitzer Prize winning opera "Silent Night." He has also played with the Kansas City St Andrews Pipes and Drums and the City of Chicago Pipe Band.

Highland Traditions 



Alexandra Schmitz has been a competitive highland dancer for 18 years.  Alongside her four dancing sisters, she has competed and performed across the U.S., Canada and Scotland.  Allie has won numerous prizes over the years, including 14 "Dancer of the Day" trophies, Champion of the Lakes and Prairies Championship and the Loch Norman Championship, and in 2015 was the 18 & over 5th Runner-Up in the United States National Championships. Allie is founder and lead instructor of the Twin Cities Scottish Dance Academy www.groups101.com/tcsda and plays both the tenor and bass drums in the Macalester College Pipe Band.
 

Hunter Gullickson began drumming at the age of 7 and received the benefit of good instruction early.  Hunter grew up in rural Wisconsin playing in drum and bugles corps with his siblings and was lured to highland drumming by age 10.  Hunter is the drumming instructor for the Macalaster College Pipe Band and has won numerous drum corps and solo prizes.  He has competed in Grade 2 with the Monaghan and Kenmure Pipe Bands and Grade 1 with the City of Chicago Pipe Band and takes great joy in exploring the intricacies of this art form with his students.   

Andrew Lewis was born into a family of bagpipers, drummers, and highland dancers. He was originally taught by both of his parents and later received instruction from some of the finest teachers and bagpipers in the world including Alisdair Gillies, Jack Lee, Willie McCallum, Donald Lindsay, and others. He is an actice bagpipe teacher, judge, and competitor. He is currently active with the Macalester College Pipe Band and has previously played with Oran Mor and the City of Chicago Pipe Band. He was the winner of the 2005 Nicol-Brown Invitational, the premier North American amateur solo competition, and  just two months ago took First Place in the Silver Medal competition in Kansas City.  IN December he earned  his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at the U of M.
